Mystical Tutor

Mystical Tutor

"Mystical Tutor disproportionately empowers combo and control strategies while offering nothing to aggressive archetypes, directly contradicting the committee's rebalancing objectives. The card's interactions with specific mechanics like miracle created degenerate play patterns that warped gameplay around these synergies.

More fundamentally, Mystical Tutor undermines the singleton format's core variance principle. Players could include narrow but powerful effects like Armageddon or Upheaval without accepting normal consistency risks, effectively circumventing the 99-card restriction through guaranteed access. This transformed deckbuilding from careful balance considerations into including silver bullets for every situation.

The tutor's presence constrains future unbanning decisions by amplifying potentially problematic cards that might otherwise be acceptable. Its removal opens design space for reintroducing cards previously deemed too dangerous when fetchable on demand.

Key ban reasons:

  • Exclusively benefits combo and control over aggressive strategies
  • Enables degenerate interactions with mechanics like miracle
  • Circumvents singleton variance through guaranteed access
  • Allows risk-free inclusion of situational power cards
  • Contradicts committee's archetype rebalancing goals
  • Restricts potential future unbans

Mystical Tutor must be banned to restore proper singleton variance, prevent risk-free inclusion of narrow power cards, and enable future format development through expanded unbanning options."
