๐ฎ Vision for the Game
Committee position: Support the format's natural evolution alongside WotC releases
Former coordinator position: Radical restructuring including banning 150+ cards or replacing the banlist with a points system
Following escalating tensions within the organization, a complete rupture occurred between the former Technical Coordinator and the entire Duel Commander Committee.
The former Technical Coordinator served in this role for approximately ten years, responsible for managing the technical infrastructure of our platforms (website, Discord, social media). Over time, profound disagreements emerged on three fronts:
Committee position: Support the format's natural evolution alongside WotC releases
Former coordinator position: Radical restructuring including banning 150+ cards or replacing the banlist with a points system
Original mandate: Technical coordination and infrastructure management
Actual behavior: Excessive participation in strategic decisions beyond assigned role, dominating discussions
Situation: Sole holder of all administrative rights
Committee request: Share access through a collective account for sustainable governance
Over several years, tensions escalated due to:
The Committee collectively requested that the former coordinator step back from decision-making and transfer administrative rights to a shared account, ensuring sustainable collegial management appropriate for an organization of our size and nature.
The former coordinator banned the entire Duel Commander Committee from all official platforms and took exclusive control of all communication channels.
All strategic decision-makers
All advisory members
All community liaisons
Only the former Technical Coordinator has isolated himself in this action. This individual represents only himself and has never held decision-making authority over the format.
The following channels are currently under the former coordinator's exclusive control and do not reflect the Committee's positions:
No longer official - controlled by one individual
No longer official - unilateral control
Compromised - one person acting alone
The Duel Commander Committee continues its work:
The following is the complete statement from Crimelune on behalf of the entire Duel Commander Committee team, explaining the situation from the Committee's perspective.
The Committee has always been a collegial institution, whose Core Members, the decision-makers, represented different approaches to the game. This structure is supported by various institutional components: Consultants, Community Managers, and a somewhat unique position, the Technical Coordinator.
The former Technical Coordinator held this role for about ten years. This person has seen many members come and go, but was a historical pillar of the format, whose original function was to take care of the website and our various communication channels. In practice, their dynamism and availability also led them to take on the role of what could be called a manager. Above all, their commitment led them to regularly participate in substantive discussions, even though this was not originally part of their role.
In recent years, however, strong tensions arose between this individual and the rest of the team, first over the direction to take, and then in the human dimension of our exchanges.
Our conceptions of the game tended to drift apart gradually. The Committee team wanted to support the game's evolution through the releases proposed by WotC, while the former coordinator felt it was necessary to radically restructure the format to limit its transformation. For example, they felt it necessary to ban a minimum of 150 cards, or to remove the ban list and replace it with a points system (Black Lotus being worth 100 points, etc.). We disagreed with these proposals, especially since this was not part of their role as technical coordinator. Their insistence on systematically bringing these projects back to the table at every meeting was detrimental to the quality of our work.
Communication with this person became increasingly complex over the years. Their tendency to dominate conversations and discussions, without respecting others' speaking time or opinions, led us to gradually exclude them from our exchanges, which should have been the case from the outset given their position within the organization. Gradually, exchanges became increasingly confrontational. As a result, they felt marginalized, seeing themselves excluded from a role that was not originally theirs, but which they had become accustomed to occupying.
This latent conflict could not be resolved through dialogue, despite repeated attempts on our part and numerous requests from the entire extended team. The situation was all the more critical as this individual was the sole holder of administrative rights for all our official channels. Our disagreements were also reflected there: they were the sole master of these tools and refused to modify them in line with the changes we wanted to make.
As this arrangement was not sustainable for an organization of our size and nature, we wanted to centralize access to these channels in a shared account, a form of legal entity with shared rights. We therefore collectively asked the former coordinator to step down from the institution and transfer these rights to the group.
This individual is currently isolated in their split project: the entire team, from Consultants to Core Members to Community Managers, remains united around the format, and the former coordinator represents only themselves in this matter. Their claim to want to set up a parallel entity is, unfortunately, exactly the type of crisis we wanted to avoid.
We are doing our best to resolve the crisis as quickly as possible and arrive at a satisfactory solution for the community, in particular by re-establishing effective and collegially managed channels of discussion.
The former coordinator has, in fact, done a great deal for the committee during their ten years of service. They have worked hard, both on the technical side and in a quasi-managerial role for teams that were not always easy to work with. We haven't forgotten what they have contributed, but it seems that the last few years have been very difficult for them, as they have been outnumbered in their vision of the game and relatively marginalized by their communication difficulties.
They are now isolated, plunged into what can only be described as a state of distress; we do not wish to overwhelm them or encourage anyone to attack them in any way. Our priority remains, above all, to return the institution to its community and to prevent this type of problem from arising again in the future.
โ Crimelune, on behalf of the entire Duel Commander Committee team
As you've likely gathered by now, our immediate priority has been to restore our online presence. We're pleased to confirm that we currently have:
Fully operational
Active and growing
Rapidly growing
Before we discuss what lies ahead, we want to express our sincere gratitude to everyone who has supported us and offered invaluable advice during these challenging past few days.
Special recognition is due to:
Our foremost concern is ensuring that such disruptions never occur again. All new platforms have been created using a dedicated Google account with credentials shared among the core Committee team. While this doesn't entirely eliminate the risk of sabotage, it represents a significant improvement. In the near future, we'll implement a password management system that prevents unauthorized changes without consensus from other members.
Beyond security, we must reorganize internally and enhance our transparency. This will take timeโwe'd rather share polished, clear information than create confusion with incomplete or frequently revised communications.
We're establishing a legal structure with public bylaws. While an association appears to be the most suitable option, we're taking our time with this decision, as it will shape the Committee's governance for years to come.
We're developing an eviction procedure. We have a solid draft that requires final review, which will notably include provisions regarding confidentiality breaches.
During the initial crisis, we assigned numerous "temporary" roles to respond quickly. We now need to think long-term, which means recruiting individuals who have the time, commitment, and alignment with our goals and values.
We're exploring the creation of a "News" section on our website to share our perspectives on the format more regularly and accessibly. While we frequently engage in discussions on Discord, that content reaches only a limited audience. We canโand shouldโdo better.
Naturally, there are other matters to address, but we felt it important to offer you this initial window into our thinking and process.
With our warmest regards,
The Duel Commander Committee

Establishing reliable, community-controlled channels
Connect with the legitimate Duel Commander Committee through these verified channels:
Yes, absolutely. The Committee continues its work managing the format. This is an administrative crisis, not the end of Duel Commander.
Only announcements from the collegial Committee are official. Be wary of communications coming solely from the former coordinator on the compromised platforms.
We are working to recover access or establish new official channels. Stay informed through this website and our verified social media.
Yes! This crisis is administrative and does not affect gameplay. Continue enjoying Duel Commander with the current banlist and rules.
Faceless governance means no single person controls the format. The format belongs to the community, managed collectively by the Committee. All infrastructure (domains, servers, social media) has multiple administrators with equal access. This prevents anyone from holding the format hostage or making unilateral decisions.
We're building systems where decisions require consensus, and no individual can lock out others. The format will outlast any single person.
We've established a formal Governance Policy that legally protects the format's collegial structure. New infrastructure is built with multiple redundant administrators, shared access controls, and clear written procedures. No single person will ever again have unilateral control over Duel Commander's platforms.
Stay informed through our official channels, share accurate information with the community, and continue playing and supporting the format we all love. Your participation and trust help us rebuild stronger systems that truly belong to the community.
