Announcement/Update

From 2014 to 2016, the Duel Commander Committee has created a structured internal organization, with 4 different roles, designed to better adapt to its needs. This structure has thrived, until now.

We decided it is now the time for us to change how we are structured, once again. Even though these changes are purely internal, we still think it is a good idea to publicly disclose to all of you how we work, who is part of the Committee and what the different positions are, whether they're set, hypothetical, or currently subject to recruiting.

πŸ“‹ FURTHER EXPLANATIONS

A Growing Community

Back somewhere around 2015, we restructured the whole Committee, out from scratch and from the ashes of former, improvised forms. Long gone is the time this Committee was only made from a small handful of people, followed by hundreds of players, barely leaving kitchen and living-room tables. To this day, we reached a peak total of 20 simultaneously active people, 18 as of the time this text is written.

Why Change Now?

Even though the current structure would still work as is for some time, we decided to change the structure to better reflect:

  • Global expansion: We literally discover a new country playing Duel Commander every month
  • International growth: The diminishing relative part of France among the countries where things happen, despite the absolute gross popularity there
  • Social media importance: The growing importance of social networks, and the time that has come to expand our presence and visibility
  • MTGO integration: Magic The Gathering Online has entered the game two months ago, and is now part of the equation
  • Evolving needs: The now smaller ongoing needs for rules tracking
  • Established foundation: The work done over these 10 years to overcome diplomatic difficulties, human problems, or technical challenges

πŸ›οΈ New Committee Structure

The Core Team

The decision-making body that will determine how everything is handled.

The Extended Team

All members of the Committee, consisting of:

Internationalization Team: A vastly expanded team of Regional Coordinators, from a list that is expected to grow rapidly

Social Media & Content Curation Team: A new internal team that will assist in creating discussions and content

Rules Guidance: A restricted yet still needed rules advisory position to better ensure strict, comprehensive rules and judge coordination

External Partners

Trusted partners who will work hand in hand with the Committee:

Discord Support Team: Assistance with mandatory daily activities on Discord

Events Team: Coordination with Tournament Organizers and promotion of large tournaments

Facebook Support Team: Ensuring our legacy media continues to function

MTGO Relations: Official relations through Daybreakβ„’ Games for Magic The Gathering Onlineβ„’

Team Transitions

This restructuring affects people in six different categories:

  • People who will stay with updated titles (Brennan McAlear, William Pinaud, and our Discord team)
  • People who will stay and keep their current titles (all other Regional Coordinators)
  • People who will leave the Committee (Advisors, Jordan Raiber)
  • People who will be recruited with certainty (identified position and role)
  • People who might be recruited (identified role or position only)
  • People who might join later on (uncertain role and position)

The recruitment process as presented during our 2024 panel still holds for all new roles.

🫢 Thank You

Everyone in the Core Team unanimously joins to thank:

Damien Jantzen, Jordan Raiber, Manuel Le Marec,
Martin Cuchet, Pierre-Guillaume Bardin and Thomas Mechin

For all your time, involvement and sympathy over these years. We hope we can all stay in touch and see each other on greater and better events every year!
